Intent rather than ability separates the botanical artist seeking to record accurately the details of plants for scientific purpose and the painter of impressionistic flowerpieces , seeking primarily aesthetic effect.
The greatest flower artist have been those who have found beauty in truth,who have understood plants scientifically, but who have yet seen and described them with the eye and the hand of the artist.
